About Bruisen Beek Farm

Our History

We are located in the small community of St. Andrews, Nova Scotia. Our farmland was acquired in the 1960’s after immigration from Holland and has now been in our family for 3 generations. Although once an active farm, there were a number of years that our old barns sat empty, until we started with our small herd of goats in 2008. We decided on the name Bruisen Beek which is Dutch for ‘Babbling Brook’, inspired by the beautiful brook that winds its way throughout the farm. We all have fond memories of our Grandmother sitting on her bench and drinking her tea, listening to her ‘babbling brook’.

This property is more than just land, it is family history and memories made throughout the years.

Our Journey

I bought our first 2 Alpine goats, Mya and Callie, in 2008 after joining the local 4-H club. This is where my love of goats began! I showed these 2 goats for multiple years, and eventually got into breeding. We have continued to grow throughout the years, and now have a happy herd of 20 beautiful Alpine dairy goats. I continued to be an active 4-H member, competing in the goat project for 11 years, and I am now the proud Leader of the St. Andrews 4-H goat club! We have weekly meetings where we learn about goats, and train for shows all throughout the Summer!

Our Passion For Goats Milk Soap

As someone who always struggled with skin issues, I was tired of always trying the newest chemical creams and medications. It felt like everything I used made it worse. Until I started using products made from goats milk! I quickly started finding relief that I had never felt before. This is when I started playing with making soap! It took multiple months of trying with recipes until I found the perfect combination of milk and oils to make that perfect soap we all love. All of our products are made from our own recipes, and tested by trial and error by family and friends. I am proud to offer products that are handmade in small batches, right on our farm.
